14 Waterford businesses cited for selling alcohol to minors

Fourteen businesses were cited for selling alcohol to a minor in Waterford after an undercover operation, Waterford Township Police say.

Police say they sent an underage decoy to the 56 licensed establishments in Waterford to buy alcohol. Fourteen of those violated state law and sold the alcohol to the decoy, police say.

Police say they began sending the decoys to the businesses in March in anticipation of prom and graduation season.

Police say 42 establishments acted responsibly and asked for identification, and then refused the sale. The 14 violators were cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor and the licensees will be referred to the Liquor Control Commission for further action.

Waterford Township Police added they will use all investigative techniques available, as well as random uniform patrols, to help curb the purchase and consumption of alcohol and tobacco by teens and young adults in the community
