Police investigating different scenarios for missing 13-year-old

- Authorities have issued an AMBER Alert for a 13-year-old boy who is believed to have been kidnapped from Detroit's east side. The conditions behind his disappearance are confusing, and Detroit Police say they are investigating two possible kidnapping scenarios.

Detroit police say Deontae Mitchell may have been kidnapped by a homeless man, or that he may have been kidnapped by someone in a black Impala. Police say it is also possible that he is with his friends.

Deontae's cousin had told police Deontae went missing around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31. They were on their bikes at Nino's Market on Warren Avenue, which is on the city's east site. The cousin told police a homeless man who was apparently drunk dropped some money while urinating outside the market, and that Deontae picked it up and then they rode off on their bikes. The homeless man may have chased after them.

Police also say they have third-hand information that Deontae may have been grabbed by a black male in a 2002 Chevy Impala but do not have a license plate number. Police do not believe the homeless man and the person in the Chevy Impala are the same person, which is why they are investigating them as two separate scenarios.

Deontae is about 4 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs about 86 pounds. He has hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a lime green Nautica shirt with gray jogging pants and black gym shoes.

In the AMBER Alert, the suspect is described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 175 lbs. He is said to be around 40 years old. The 2002 Chevy Impala is also said to have a loud muffler.

An AMBER Alert was issued just before 9 a.m. Wednesday. Police say it was not pushed to people on their phones because they do not have a license plate for the Impala.

Nino's Market has one surveillance camera and Detroit Police say they are reviewing the video. It's expected to be released later in the day on Wednesday.
