After losing home to fire, man's prized drag race truck stolen

- An older man's most prized possession stolen just weeks after he lost his home to a fire.

This 72-year old Clarkston resident loves drag racing and he doesn't let much slow him down - not even a house fire that has forced him to stay at this hotel.

"On 11th of May I had a house fire and it completely gutted the house," said Dennis Theakston.

Still inspired to continue racing, Theakston was able to compete in a race on Saturday.

But rain put the brakes on Sunday's race. He parked his truck and trailer at a lot next to his hotel on Baldwin Road and Monday evening he was planning to take it to Fenton where he stores it.

But when he woke up Monday morning everything was gone

"My heart dropped down to my feet," he said.

As Theakston was sleeping, his prized possessions were stolen and it was all caught on video

"There was a guy who kept coming up to my truck and it look like he had a jimmy to open the door," he said. "The next thing I saw was the taillights coming on the trailer and him pulling out of the driveway."

Theakston says they also got away with other items inside the truck including helmets and race jackets for a grand total of $25,000.

"I hope whoever has it is happy," he said.

Matthew Combs is a friend and sponsors Dennis in his drag racing. He said there is a reward offered for the return of the truck and trailer.

"If anyone comes up with anything, any return we're offering a reward for the return of the truck," said Combs, of Gear Headz Automotive.

Theakston says he won't let this unfortunate incident hold him back in fact, he plans to race before the end of the month.

"I've already had a car offered to me to race for next weekend," he said.

As the investigation continues Theakston hopes someone recognizes his items and calls police.

"Other than my daughter that truck was everything I had," he said.
