DETROIT (WJBK) - A 5-month-old baby who was at the center of an AMBER Alert Wednesday morning has been found safe, Detroit Police tell FOX 2.
Police said Tonya Denise Monique Smith was grabbed out of her mother's arms at a house on the 19,000 block of Hoover around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday. Police were looking for 21-year-old Michael Hunter, and found him with the baby. He is in custody at this time.
They were found at 7 Mile and Schoenherr, which is about a mile away from where she was taken. Police say they were apprehended without incident.
FOX 2's Robin Murdoch reports that Hunter saw an AMBER Alert had been issued for the baby and contacted the mother. That's when police were able to track him down and into custody.
Murdoch also reports Hunter and the baby's mother were apparently dating, and that she was in the process of breaking up with him when we're told he took the baby. Police say Hunter took off with the baby on foot, and that he did not have a car.
Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody says the baby doesn't appear to have suffered any injuries, but will be evaluated at the hospital as a precaution.
