Mother stabs 16-year-old son at Romulus daycare

A 16-year-old boy was stabbed inside a Romulus daycare by his mother, who runs the child care business out of her home.

The incident took place at Little Debbie's Family Child Care, according to Romulus police.

Romulus police say at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed by his 46-year-old mother because of a dispute over a cell phone.

"The street kind of looked like it may have been blocked off, so I just went around the block. There was just a lot of police activity down there for a while," said Olivia Ross, who says she knows Little Debbie.

Friends say that Little Debbie operated the daycare center where the alleged stabbing took place.

"She's a very good mother and she runs a day care there, so I'm saddened to hear about what happened," said Chaundra Hill, a neighbor.

The 16-year-old was taken to Beaumont Dearborn hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. Police say that there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol.

FOX 2 attempted to talk to someone from Little Debbie's childcare but she refused to talk, and calls to the day care center went unanswered.

"The house is immaculate all the time and the children, well manned," said Cherie Pollard, whose grandson attends the daycare.

Romulus police have a woman in custody. They're not saying if it's Little Debbie, as no criminal charges have yet to be filed.
