Teens lead police on wild chase down wrong way on Telegraph

- A police chase turns even more dangerous when the suspect starts driving the wrong way on the wrong side of the road.

An SUV full of teenagers tried to get away from Sylvan Lake police early Friday morning.

This is police dash cam video as you're riding along with Sylvan Lake police at 2 a.m. Friday.

This cruiser on patrol has just clocked a white Chevy Trailblazer speeding in the center lane with the left turn signal blinking. The SUV, with five teens inside, stops at the light at Old Telegraph and Orchard Lake Rd. As the light goes green, the Trailblazer leaves the light- and moments later the officer gives chase with pursuit lights on.

Officer: "There they go, they're not going to stop, they're not going to stop"

The chase is now on as the Trailblazer picks up speed. The officer tells dispatch he has a fleeing vehicle.

Officer:  "Radio 34-20"

Watch as the Trailblazer runs the stop sign then pulls another dangerous move --  heading south on northbound Telegraph.

In his attempt to outrun police he will face oncoming traffic as he goes the wrong way on Telegraph. The Officer quickly decides to get out of the oncoming lanes and elects to take the median.

Officer: "Get over on this side we're going to get hit."

The officer turns his overheads off to stop the pursuit. He does not want the Trailblazer to hit anyone head-on.

The driver ditches the vehicle in a turnaround lane here on Telegraph.  Then watch as five guys jump out.

Officer: "You got 5 guys bailing out were in front of Indian."

Now that all five are on foot, police resume the chase. The suspects ran through the surveillance cameras of the Indian Motor City Motorcycle dealership property on Telegraph.

They bolted behind the dealership where it's an instant track meet  and the high hurdles are top soil and cedar mulch bags at the Lowe's Garden Center parking lot.

Where does it all end?  Here at Crystal Lake Golf course. Canine teams from the Oakland County Sheriff Office and Bloomfield Township Police track three of the five from the Trailblazer hiding in a wooded area near a fairway at Crystal Lake Golf course in Bloomfield Township at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.

The three taken into custody from this wild chase are all males and all juveniles, ages 13, 14 and 14. The 3 teens said they were not driving.

Because they ran they'll be charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of a police officer.

There were also empty alcoholic beverage bottles inside--but the 3 teens arrested had not been drinking.  Two other suspects escaped including the driver.

Police are working to identify them and bring them in. Police say the Trailblazer was not stolen and they say the owner was not involved in the chase. Why were these young kids joyriding at 2 a.m.?

Police need more questions answered when they find the other two.

Amazingly, no one was hurt. They have been released by police to their parents as officers investigate to track down the other two.
