Hazel Park woman found stabbed, shot in husband's truck testifies

The trial is underway for the man accused of duct taping his wife, stabbing her and shooting both her legs.

Radu Muntean is accused of taking his wife to a field on Detroit's east side where he beat her and stabbed her.

The Hazel Park man was charged with assault with intent to murder, and unlawful imprisonment among other crimes and could spend life in prison if convicted.

An undercover officer said he found Muntean in his pickup in the middle of a field at Lyford and Gilbo in Detroit on March 23. Inside the truck was Muntean's 32-year-old wife. Police say she was bound with duct tape with her face slashed and had gunshot wounds to both legs.

His wife Natalia took the stand and relived that day in March when Radu pulled a gun on her and she thought she was going to die.

"I just remember thinking this is so dangerous, he could accidentally shoot it and he could fire," she said. "He pointed it at my legs and he pushed it away. Then he came back, pointed it at my legs and shot. He said 'Don't worry, you're not going to go before me.' And at that point, I was just thinking everything in my head."

Natalia says Radu also beat her with his gun and stabbed her repeatedly. But Radu's defense attorney says his client had no intention of killing his wife.

The defense attorney says Radu and Natalia were separated at the time of the attack and had been arguing over the custody of their daughter.

Muntean had been bonded out of jail under the condition that he have no contact with his wife.

He was charged with assault with intent to murder, and unlawful imprisonment among other crimes and could spend life in prison if convicted.

Neighbors told FOX 2 in a previous report that the couple were never seen fighting but were seeking therapy.
