Greenwood Pets and Plants is defying odds. They've reopened under new ownership after the well-known store was left dilapidated and deplorable two years ago.

"The city, the mayor, the inspectors, everybody's just so happy this place is coming back," Fadi Quaqish, owner of Greenwood Pets and Plants, said.

Quaqish said after getting the store back up and running, the call that his store was burglarize felt like a punch in the gut.

"Doesn't feel good at all. You work hard to try to bring this landmark back, and people just don't care that much I guess," Qaqish said.

Around 2:30 Friday morning, police say two teenage boys from Detroit were arrested for breaking through this door and robbing this place. One is seen breaking the glass, then trying to open the register. When that doesn't work, he grabs an iPad and runs.

Warren police arrived only seven minutes after the breakin began, arresting the teen and an accomplice who was waiting outside. According to police, The 15 and 16 year old boys also tried to rob a few other businesses nearby the same night.

Qaqish said the Warren police officers were amazing and they had a quick response. They weren't the only ones to praise police officers. Mayor Jim Fouts commended the three officers for their quick reactions.

"They are doing an outstanding job. I can cite numerous incidents, where within a half hour, they're able to apprehend someone," Fouts said.

Fouts also credited Quaqish for bringing a staple back to Warren.

"He's a great guy and he's obviously going to make this into a viable business," Fouts said.

Quaqish just wants recognition for police.

"They help us out they take care of the place and for that, we really appreciate them," he said.
