27-year-old Newport man arrested in murder of Chelsea Bruck

- A 27-year-old Newport man has been arrested in the 2014 murder of Chelsea Bruck.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone made the announcement in a Friday night press conference that the suspect had been arrested earlier today.

Malone said that Thursday his office received information from the Michigan State Police crime lab which connected the Newport man to the investigation. Surveillance was set up on the suspect's residence in Frenchtown Township and he was arrested at 2:55 p.m. and taken

"During an interview, detectives received details only the killer would have know," Brown said. "as this information was never (released) to the public. The suspect is lodged in the Monroe County Jail pending an open murder charge."

Information on the suspect will be released Monday after his arraignment.

Chelsea Bruck, 22, of Maybee Michigan, attended a 2014 Halloween Party Oct. 25 at a private residence with hundreds of others on Post Road in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township. Two days later the sheriff's office took a missing persons report from her family.

The party was the last time Chelsea was seen alive.  Countless searches for her turned up nothing until April 2015 when investigators say fabric from her hand-made Halloween costume of comic villain Poison Ivy with green leaves was recovered in Flat Rock.

On Apri 24 of 2015 Chelsea's decomposed body was found in a wooded area on Briarhill Road in Ash Township, Carlton. The Wayne County Medical Examiner ruled that Miss Bruck died of blunt force trauma, but no weapon was used. That could mean she was either beaten to death or strangled.

"Since that time, these deputies have spent thousands of hours following up on every leads on a daily basis," Malone said. "I want to thank the Bruck family for their patience and continued  support during the investigation."
