FOX 2 Viewers come together to save backpack giveaway

Generous donors make sure low income kids get school supplies

Brothers Always Together will be able to give away backpacks and schools supplies to low income families thanks to generous donations.

"Wow! Detroit came through for us," said Lamont Causey, president of Brothers Always Together.

Causey had been handing out  fliers for months for a backpack giveaway at Gordon Park in Detroit Saturday.  The sponsors recently backed out and Causey became desperate.

""We all know what these kids are about. That's our future. So we want to make sure we take care of our young folks and get them on the right track," said Causey.

After seeing Causey's plea on FOX 2 Thursday, Boulevard & Tumbull Towing decided to help out and donate $2,000.

"Honestly, we are just happy to be able to be a part of just making sure no child is left behind this school year," said Kaneisha Gadson, Boulevard & Trumbull Towing.

"We were thinking we might be able to get a couple hundred with this with school supplies. You can't measure that," said Causey.

Causey says he's received calls from people wanting to donate backpacks and supplies, $600 from an anonymous donor and a donation from a woman in San Francisco, California.
