LAKE ORION TWP., Mich. (WJBK) - Many residents in a Lake Orion Township mobile home park got the Amber Alert issued for a 5-year-old boy Saturday evening, but didn't think the police would end up in their own neighborhood.
Police issued an Amber Alert for 5-year-old Douglas Ball, who was thought to have been taken by his father, also named Douglas Ball.
On Sunday morning, SWAT teams located the suspect and rescued the child, arresting his father.
They were found inside the suspect's estranged mother's mobile home.
"The mother and the father said did you see my daughter, I said I haven't seen your daughter in a couple of days," said Cathy Heilig, a neighbor.
Ball is suspected of killing his wife at their home in Port Huron.
"When you have a situation like this, when you have a homicide, suspect on the run, it takes a lot of work," said Capt. Jeff Baker of the Port Huron Police Department.
One witness said he saw the child be given over to his grandmother.
"It kind of broke my heart a little bit , but I was really happy that the kid's OK," Steven Tazzia said.
Police said the suspect is now being held on homicide charges, and he could be charged with kidnapping.
"The poor baby now has no mother, no father, no nothing, except for grandparents. I would hate to see my grandkids in this situation. I really would," said neighbor Terrie McWilliams
