Massive sinkhole closes section of Main Street in Royal Oak

WEB UPDATE: The Royal Oak Fire Department  and Consumers Energy say that a sinkhole caused a large chunk of concrete to fall on a Consumers Energy gas line. 

The line rupture released gas to the atmosphere- but there was no explosion. National Coney now has gas service and the restaurant is opening back up tonight. the sinkhole remains - it's origin under investigation.

The large sinkhole caused a section of Main Street in Royal Oak to close this Friday afternoon.

Crews were at the scene on the northbound side near 12 Mile tending to it.
