Hazel Park man going to trial in murder, mutilation of Jessica White
They were lifelong friends -- now he's accused of killing her.
Today a judge found there was enough evidence against Jordan McClanahan to stand trial for the murder of Jessica White inside his Hazel Park home.
Caution - details of this brutal crime are graphic.
A week and a half after 21-year-old Jessica White of Troy was reported missing, her body was found inside a tarp in a hidden attic space of her good friend's home.
"The body was in a state of fairly advanced decomposition," said Dr. Ljubisa Dragovic, Oakland County Medical Examiner. "The cause of death was strangulation by ligature (cord) and asphyxia resulted from that application."
Jessica disappeared on April 23, childhood friend Jordan McClanahan was the last person to see her alive.
"He had indicated he had dropped her off the morning of April 23, 2016 somewhere in the area of Golden Gate in Detroit per her request," said Det. Kristine Shuler.
But police say his story didn't add up.
"I had some phone information that I obtained from Jessica White's cell phone records that was conflicting what he was telling me," Shuler said.
Days went by and McClanahan even helped White's family search for her. During that time he claims memories of what happened on April 23rd started to come back to him.
"He started to get some really bad feelings, thought that something bad happened," Shuler said. "And that he looked in the attic that's up in his room. He either described it as an attic or closet and he indicated Jessica was in there wrapped in a tarp."
McClanahan confessed to police that he had consumed a lot of medication that night -- and mixed it with alcohol. He told investigators Jessica was drinking too and they had sex, then he strangled her. Police say it was a lie. The truth was even more morbid.
"He's describing how she's laying on the bed he went over and took the belt, I guess I’ll describe it as a loop, and then pulled it tight in the front of the neck area for approximately 2-3 minutes until she was deceased," Shuler said. "And then indicated he had sexual intercourse with her after that."
McClanahan then told police he brought the body to the garage where he placed her on a blue tarp and cut off her fingertips with a bolt cutter. He told police he didn't want her to be identified. Hazel Park police found her body the day he confessed to Troy police.
"The south end of the crawl space was the blue tarp where the victim was at," said Officer Mark Westenberg, Troy police.
The judge heard all he needed to hear. McClanahan was bound over for trial on both charges of first degree premeditated murder and mutilation of a body.
He remains behind bars without a chance for bond.
