(WJBK) - Katie Lacroix and her husband Drew are doing whatever it takes to help their daughter Leah, who was diagnosed at 10 months with leukemia.
"You don't have a choice, you know - people ask us how are you this strong and there's no answer - there's just - we don't have a choice," Katie Lacroix said.
They had just celebrated a year in remission only to learn now the cancer is back.
"I don't think people realize how many kids are diagnosed in a day," who said. "There's so many of us battling this. It's heart wrenching to think about our hardship and those who have hardships greater than ours because of childhood cancer."
It's a story FOX 2 first brought you last week. Two public school teachers about to celebrate the birth of their second child are now fighting for the life of their firstborn. Many of you want to help them tackle the financial burden they'll face while fighting for Leah.
"Something came over me -- there was something that I felt that we really needed to reach out to this family," Vicki Leone said.
So Vicki and John Leone are doing just that. They're throwing a big bash at their establishment Roak Brewery in Royal Oak on Thursday, September 1, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to Leah and her family.
From 5 p.m. to midnight there will beer, pizza, and live music. They're tapping their new brew -- Devil dog barrel aged beer -- and everybody is invited. The brewery is located at 333 E. Lincoln Avenue.
"We're going to enjoy ourselves but at the same time we're going to be doing the right thing, and that's what we like to do," John Leone said. "We want to do what's right."
Vicki said their ultimate goal at the end of the night is to help them have relief and peace of mind knowing that they care.
"We do need support right now and we feel very blessed to have the community that we have behind us," Drew Lacroix said.
