- Police raided a home in Westland finding a suspected meth lab and taking as many as six people into custody.

A quiet Westland Street turned into a crime scene.

"They started pushing something towards the door, rammed it open and started bringing one person out at a time," Kristina-Lynn Garbarcik.

The Michigan State Police fugitive apprehension team found more than they bargained for at this house on Manila Street.

"As they were searching to see if the fugitive was actually in the home, they discovered the components of a meth lab downstairs," said Lt. Michael Shaw, Michigan State Police.

No surprise to some.

"When the kitchen window is open. You can smell it as you are walking up to the house," Garbarcik said.

Nine people were inside the house, six of which had warrants - and one had more than that.

"One of the individuals was arrested and had a gram of meth on him that was probably just made the night before," Shaw said.

Police back out, suit-up and go back in to see what kind of operation they were dealing with.

"A gas generator, a one pot meth lab cook," Shaw said. "There were ingredients definitely to be used in the future to cook more methamphetamines."

And just across the street from the suspected working meth lab is a school bus stop - with many not knowing how close they were to something potentially deadly.

"Basically this is just a self-contained bomb that's inside of there when they are making meth," Shaw said.

The house we were told will no longer be a problem, condemned by the fire department while the prosecutor will look at charges for the people found inside the house.

"They have been having trouble with this house for a long time," Shaw said. "There is nothing worse than go home at night  and have someone running an active meth lab in your neighborhood. So again, (call) 855-MICH-TIP and if there is a lab, we will get it out."
