$1K reward for info on video game store smash and grab in Dearborn

DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - As metro Detroit got hit with a brutal snow storm Sunday evening, two men were planning a smash and grab at a Dearborn video game store.

On video one can see the glass shatter and then broken pieces fly across the room as the suspects jump through the door and then start grabbing merchandise.

"I really couldn't believe it. I saw the surveillance," said owner Phil Awada. "The guy was up on the showcase, it didn't crack. He was grabbing things, throwing them in bags. Unbelievable what's happening."

Awada's alarm company alerted him that there was trouble at his store located on Greenfield.

"I got a phone call from the alarm company - it was 11:49 they told me they told me the glass was out," he said.

Awada says the men took more than $500 worth of merchandise but damage to his store is much more.

"An Xbox One The Collector’s Edition, The Halo edition that was $499," he said. "(I'm) cleaning up the glass, replacing the windows, boarding up. That's the headache - worth more than merchandise itself."

As many gear up for the holiday shopping season, the owner believes some innocent person will buy his stolen merchandise.

"They sell to these little pawnshops places that buy and sell without getting the IDs," he said. "And of course if there is a demand, there's always going to be someone breaking in."

Awada says this is not the first time police have been called to investigate someone stealing his merchandise.

"They actually caught him inside he was logged in and couldn't get out," he said. "Another guy had a Spiderman mask on but they didn't catch him."
