Michigan State Police and Detroit Police are investigating an early morning fire, after they believe the bodies found inside the vacant home could belong to a missing mother and daughter.

Detroit Fire and Detroit Police investigators were on-scene of a house fire on Detroit's east side.

The fire broke out in the basement of the home on Lakeview around 6 a.m. Saturday. When crews extinguished the fire, 2 bodies were found in the basement. Detroit Police and Michigan State Police believe they are the bodies of Heidi Walker and her 4-year-old daughter Savannah.

An Amber Alert is currently out for Savannah. It is believed she was kidnapped by her mother's boyfriend, Marcus Hightower. Detroit Police say Walker's family first reported the pair missing in Livingston County on Tuesday, but the Amber Alert was made for Savannah until Saturday morning.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig says they are looking into those reports, and investigating why something wasn't done as soon as Livingston County was notified.

Fox 2 spoke with the sheriff of Livingston County earlier today, and he calls Chief Craig's comments "out of place." The sheriff went on to say they have been working on this case since they were first notified, but at the time, there was not enough information for them to believe this was a kidnapping.

Marcus Hightower is currently wanted as a person of interest in this case. Police are considering him armed and dangerous. If you see him, you are urged to call police.
