1 killed, another injured crossing Gratiot in Clinton Twp.

Authorities are investigating after two people were hit by a car Wednesday morning in Clinton Township. A 59-year-old man was killed and another, 35 years old, has been rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

It happened on Gratiot Avenue just south of Hall Road, right in front of L'Anse Creuse Public School's administration building just before 6 a.m.

We're told the driver of the red Dodge Ram that was involved in the accident did stop at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, who say charges for the driver are not likely.

"Probably, the gentlemen, unfortunately, [were] crossing where they weren't supposed to," says Sgt. Chris Allis. "It's a very poorly-lit area of Gratiot; the speed limit's 45 mph, ... so by the time you would have seen the gentlemen crossing the road it's almost too late to react to it."

Police believe the men were leaving work in the area and walking across the street to the bus stop when they were hit.
