ROYAL OAK - Geneva Liford was surprised to find out a house had been broken into right down the street from her on Owana in Royal Oak.
“I know about everyone around here by seeing them, you know,” said Liford. “I know who belongs to which house. I watch out. If I see anyone strange or different, I’ve even went out next door and said, ‘Who are you looking for?’”
Altogether, four houses were broken into in late August in the neighborhood west of Campbell, south of Lincoln. Three of the break-ins happened during daylight hours. Valuables including laptops, cash, and jewelry were stolen.
Police are not releasing a description of the suspect or suspects, but they do believe that these cases could all be related.
“It’s kind of surprising to hear about that. I’ve always felt safe in this town. I mean, there’s definitely a police presence here,“ said Royal Oak resident Mike Morgan.
“It’s just the times,” said Liford.”People are much more brazen to do things that way.”
The break-ins on Mohawk, Owana, Knowles and South Campbell have people who live in the area on the lookout.
“If there’s anything suspicious I’ll definitely talk to the right people,” said Morgan. “I’ll talk to the authorities if I see anything out of the ordinary.”
“When I see someone different, I get a description,” said Liford. “I look at their cars.”
Anyone with information regarding the break-ins is asked to call the Royal Oak Police Department.
