DETROIT (WJBK) - Police say three people were hurt -- one of them critically -- in a shooting on Detroit's west side Saturday evening.
Of the three men who were shot, one person was shot in the head and is in critical condition, the other two are in temporary serious condition. But more bullets were fired at other people sitting on their porches, simply because they were witnesses.
Detroit police say at least two suspect suspects fired shots at the scene on Prevost near Puritan -- not once, but twice. At first, witnesses thought they were hearing fireworks.
"It was a round of about six or seven, then after that was two, and then you heard the car rushing off," said Angie, who lives near the scene of the shooting.
The first shots were fired at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday. The suspects pulled up in a black Charger. Police say they got out and confronted three men standing in front of a house. They argued, then at least one of the suspects started shooting.
"It does look like they knew each other," said Capt. Kurt Worboys of the Detroit Police Department. "We have several witnesses that saw the incident. One of our victims claims to have known the shooter."
The suspects piled back into the Charger and took off. But shortly after, circled back around to take an expensive watch from the wrist of the man who was shot in the head.
"Took the watch and ran the pockets of the critical victim, got back in their car, went southbound, stopped, one person got out and started shooting at the witnesses sitting up on their porches," Worboys said.
Angie said during the incident, she wanted her kids to duck down for safety.
"I have two small ones. So I was wondering, making sure that they were safe," she said.
Normally, people who live here say it's a quiet neighborhood with not a lot of problems.
"I just wish they'd stop, because there's kids on this block. A lot of people have grandkids. And I just wish you all would take that into consideration, that it could have easily been a kid," Angie said.
Police are still looking for at least two suspects described as black males in their 20s. They were driving a black 2013 Charger with chrome rims. Call Detroit police or crime stoppers if you have and information.
