(WJBK) - A suspect has been identified and charged in the case of an Oak Park shooting that left two sisters dead on Wednesday evening.
Abdulwajid Akhenaton, 61, has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, one count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Oak Park Public Safety Officers found two women dead on the 21000 block of Church Street on Wednesday around 7 p.m. Police say one woman was 66 years old and the wife of Akhenaton, and the other woman, who was 53, was her sister. All three resided in the home together.
Police say after the shooting, Akhenaton turned himself in to Oak Park police.
Akhenaton was arraigned by video Friday at 45th District Court in Oak Park.
He was denied bond due to the seriousness of the offense and for public safety reasons. He could be facing life in prison.
Akhenaton will be back in court for a probable cause hearing at 1 p.m. on September 29 at 45th District Court, and is tentatively scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 9.
