Man arrested after hostage situation, bank robbery in Sterling Heights

- Police in Sterling Heights say a man is in custody after taking a person hostage and attempting to rob a bank Monday morning.

Police say the suspect walked into the Vibe Credit Union off Van Dyke just north of 14 Mile Road around 9:30 a.m.and duct taped three people inside.

He then forced a truck driver at gunpoint to leave the building with him. We're told the driver was for a vending service at the bank.

The suspect had the truck driver take him to a nearby neighborhood, we're told the suspect got out and attempted to enter several homes in the neighborhood. This is near Chatsworth Drive and Irving Road, near Fillmore Elementary School.

Police say the suspect found an unlocked door at someone's garage and went inside. No one was home at the home.

The suspect then set fire inside the garage to his "costume" that he was wearing, police say.

Police then found his casually walking down the street and arrested him. He was wearing a fake beard, rubber boots and other costume items at the time of the robbery.

Police say the suspect had three realistic-looking guns, but none of them were real.

It's unclear at this time if the suspect made off with any cash from the bank.
