Prosecutor: Mom who stabbed son at daycare acted in self-defense

- No charges were filed against a Romulus mother who stabbed her 16-year-old son - as prosecutors decided the woman was acting in self-defense.

Police described a chaotic scene inside the home where the teen put his 6-year-old brother in a head lock and then repeatedly hit his mom in the head and jaw.

Prosecutors say the mother stabbed her son in the leg and back to get him to stop. There is no word if the teenage son could face any legal trouble.

The incident took place at Little Debbie's Family Child Care, according to Romulus police.

Romulus police say at about 8:30 p.m. Oct.10, the boy was stabbed by his 46-year-old mother because of a dispute over a cell phone.

Friends say that Little Debbie operated the daycare center where the alleged stabbing took place.

"She's a very good mother and she runs a day care there, so I'm saddened to hear about what happened," said Chaundra Hill, a neighbor, last week after the incident.

The 16-year-old was taken to Beaumont Dearborn Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. Police say that there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol.
