2 killed in crash between garbage truck, minivan in Oxford Twp

- A minivan collides with a garbage truck in Oakland County on Ray Road killing two people and injuring two others.

"I heard the big bang and the boom, I guess you would call it," said neighbor Bob Brasseur. "I saw the fire trucks and rescue vehicles going by, I figured there was an accident."

The big bang that Brasseur heard was a minivan slamming into a garbage truck on Ray Road in Oxford Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says it happened at 8:30 Monday. The driver of the garbage truck had to stop in the middle of the road due to mechanical difficulties and that's when the mini van slammed into the back end.

When deputies arrived they found the driver of the minivan, a 43-year-old man, dead. One of the passengers, a 43-year-old female, died a short time later.

There were two other people in the minivan, including a 5-year-old who was listed in stable condition. The driver of the garbage truck received minor injuries.

There aren't many residents who live along the rural stretch of Ray Road, but those that do, say the 50 mile and hour speed limit is much too fast.

Meanwhile authorities say the driver of the minivan was not wearing a seat belt.
