A man tries to run from police, triggering a scary situation at a local Subway restaurant. The suspect tried to hide inside the sub shop, sending frightened customers and employees running.
Getting a bite to eat turned into quite an adventure for Stacie Anselmo and her two kids Thursday afternoon.
Around lunchtime, the mom pulled into the Subway parking lot off Plymouth near Merriman in Livonia. Anselmo parked the car and was getting her kids out, when she saw a police car driving over an embankment. It looked like the car was coming right toward her, but it wasn't.
"In front of the cop car was a guy running," said Anselmo.
Adrenaline kicked in. Her only thought: Get her kids to safety. Her mom and sister both work at the Subway so that's where she headed.
"We ran inside the building as fast as we could."
The problem: that's where the wanted man was heading as well.
"I notice a bunch of customers screaming. They were like, 'where is your back door?'"
They hid in the back. The guy grabbed a seat and tried to act casual.
"He just came in and sat down. The customers were just looking at him like, what are you doing?"
The police weren't fooled. By the time Anselmo got the all clear:
"He got handcuffed and put in the back of the police cruiser. He was jumping around and freaking out in the back of the car. He looked like he was trying to bust out."
Police say the man was wanted by another agency. When they crossed into Livonia police tried to pull him over. After a short chase, the car crashed into a stolen car. The two people in the stolen car were arrested.
The suspect police were chasing then hit several cars in a Walmart parking lot before running over to the Subway shop.
Despite several collisions, police say everyone is expected to recover. Police are not saying what the suspect was wanted for.
