BROWNSTOWN, Mich. (WJBK) - A family in Brownstown Township is living in fear after they say someone vandalized their car shattering the back window.
Police are searching for the ax-wielding suspect who allegedly shouted death threats. The rampage unfolding outside while children were home.
Resident Jimmy Wright is scared for the safety of his family, after this happened at his home.
"I had never spoke to this guy in my life," said Jimmy Wright. "I've never seen anybody beating something so hard and out of control in my life and I was just terrified for my kids and all these other kids in the neighborhood."
Wright says it all started with a knock on the door around 9 p.m. Saturday night, while he was inside his home on Seneca Avenue getting his young daughters ready for bed.
"This guy is out here telling me he's lucky (he doesn't) have a gun," Wright said. "He's going to cut my head off and all this crazy talk."
Police arrived quickly to the home, but Jimmy's neighbor was nowhere to be found.
Moments after police left, Wright was back inside the house with his family when he heard a loud noise. He looked outside to see his neighbor had returned and was hacking away at his car with a heavy ax.
"I ran outside and said hey what are you doing," Wright said. "And the guy takes off running down the street back to the same house he came from."
He describes his neighbor as a white man in his 40s who is bald with a muscular build. He also appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
"Everyone's worried," Wright said. "Neighbors are calling the police department saying what's going on with this guy."
Police believe the unruly neighbor may have skipped town, but they are still keeping a close eye on the neighborhood.
"I'm scared to death. I'm ready to move out of the neighborhood over it," Wright said. "This guy is still on the prowl he still out here."
Police are not yet releasing the name or picture of the suspect. But say they are following some leads.
