DTE Energy increases reward in Sgt. Collin Rose investigation to $30,000

- DTE Energy said at a press conference Friday afternoon that it is increasing a reward for information in the case of a Wayne State University sergeant who was shot and killed.

"We grieve," DTE Chief Security Officer Michael Lynch said at the press conference, "but grieving is not enough." Lynch announced the company  is matching the already-existing reward of $15,000, bringing the total reward money offered to $30,000.

Earlier this week, the Detroit Police Department released new surveillance video of an unknown suspect in the case of Sgt. Collin Rose's death.

The video shows a man riding a bicycle in the area where Sgt. Collin Rose was shot. Police would like to note to the public that the front wheel of the bicycle is smaller than the back wheel. You can watch the video from police in the video player above.

Police say the real killer is the one riding the bike in the recently released video, and that the bike is the common piece of evidence in all of this.

Police had a man in custody, who had been charged with first-degree murder, but the charges were dismissed and he was released from custody earlier this week.

Rose was investigating possible thefts of navigation systems from cars on November 22 when he radioed that he was about to speak to someone on a bike. Rose was shot in the head during the stop at Brainard and Lincoln, an area off campus where Wayne State Police Chief Holt says many students and some officers live.

Officers who arrived on the scene for backup found Rose injured on the ground. An officer immediately took Rose to the hospital, where he went into surgery. He pulled through surgery but remained in grave condition and was on a ventilator before passing away November 23.

If anyone recognizes the unknown suspect or has any information that could help police in the investigation, you're asked to contact the Detroit Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
