DETROIT - Police in Detroit are searching for a man who exposed himself to a fourteen-year-old girl. This all happened as the girl walked home October 2.
Harmoni Bevard goes to Clippard Academy, but the bus she takes drops her off at Bennett Elementary School. From there, it is about a seven block walk home for her and her friend, and it was in the last part of that journey on Friday where she says she encountered a flasher. Now she speaks out to get him caught before he does it again.
The second 14-year-old Harmoni Bevard laid eyes on him instinct told her he was no good. On the southwest side of the city she says a thirty something white man, roughly three hundred pounds was sitting in his black four-door Dodge truck, when he yelled to her.
"They teach me at school not to talk to strangers and he should know not to talk to little girls. He was like; you are the most beautiful girl I ever seen. I was like I don't know why he's talking to me I don't even know him," says Harmoni Bevard, a Clippard Academy eighth-grader.
He drives off at first, but he isn't done with her.
"He turned around and came back to me, there were cars coming I was like man I'm going to be stuck here forever and he's going to grab me, I walk in front of a car I was like I don't care I’m not dealing with this guy," says Bevard.
Then persistently, he yells again.
"He was like hey, and then exposed himself. I was scared and ran home, he watched me and then turned around in the alley," says Bevard.
This all happened Friday after school.
"She walks in a group of five until Longworth, then a half a block till she's home," says Christina Bevard, the victim's mom.
Harmoni broke down once she reached home.
"I called the cops and they were here immediately," says Christina Bevard.
Unfortunately, no one has been caught at this point.
As for Monday, Harmoni's after school routine will see some changes, at least until this guy is caught.
"I didn't want my mom walking me because I am fourteen now and now I want her to walk with me so she can protect me,” says Harmoni Bevard.
The description given is of a heavy set white man, clean shaven and about three hundred pounds. He was wearing a yellow polo shirt and a Detroit Tigers hat at the time he was driving a four-door black Dodge truck. Anyone with any idea of who this man might be is urged to call police immediately.
