3 Dearborn high schoolers charged in connection with hazing assault of a freshman

- Three high schoolers have been charged in connection with a hazing incident at Fordson High School.

On Friday the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charged three teenagers with one count each of Assault and Battery.

Authorities say the teens assaulted a 13-year-old freshman student in the locker room before football practice. Authorities say, during the assault, one of the older students exposed himself to the victim.

Names of the defendants have not been given, but authorities say they are all sophomores.

Fordson High School was aware of the alleged incident in October and has also been investigating.

Fordson Principal Heyam Alcodray said the incident happened in early October on school grounds in a letter to parents.

"This type of behavior is unacceptable, in violation of policy, and will not be allowed at Fordson High School," Alcodray said. "Hazing is a form of bullying and can be considered harassment. The consequences for taking part in such activities can be severe and have legal implications as well.

"The individuals involved in this isolated incident have been identified and appropriate disciplinary measures have been taken."

Rumors also ran rampant on social media, which Maleyko addressed in his letter confirming a sexual assault had not occurred.

"I can confirm it was not an incident of rape," he said. "These were students involved in behaviors that we will not tolerate in this district."
