Motorcyclist dies after St. Clair Shores police car collision

A 20-year old man was killed after being hit on his motorcycle by a police cruiser.

The St. Clair Shores police officer was trying to pull over a different vehicle when he slammed into the bike on Eight Mile Road between I-94 and Beaconsfield.

In a statement by St. Clair Shores police at 9:30 Wednesday night a marked St. Clair Shores police vehicle did hit the 20-year-old motorcyclist James Bush.

The police cruiser was not  chasing the third, uninvolved vehicle when the crash occured at the St. Clair Shores and Harper Woods border.

"I just heard the noise and when I came out I saw the guy on the ground," said neighbor Shawn Holcomb. "The police officer was right there. I was thinking they were here fast - then I found out it was the cops that actually hit him."

Bush, from St. Clair Shores, died about 45 minutes later at the hospital.

"It was heartbreaking," said Sandi Kazerski, who lives nearby. "When we came here he wasn't moving. It just broke our heart.

"I brought a rose from my daughter's wedding and placed it over there."

Because the accident involved a St. Clair Shores police officer, the Michigan State Police will be doing the formal report and it will be their job to determine fault. And depending on the findings, the prosecutor's office could get involved.

Michigan State Police tell FOX 2 that it could take a couple days before a formal report will be issued.

The St. Clair Shores Police Department in a statement said: "The city grieves for the family and their tragic loss of a loved one."
