ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) - Police have arrested a man for the shooting death of another man inside of the victim's Royal Oak home.
The shooting happened Monday between 1 and 2 a.m. at a house in the 2800 block of Fern Street, which is near 12 Mile and Rochester roads. Police got a call after the victim showed up at Beaumont Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. He died around 10 a.m. later that day.
Meanwhile, authorities showed up at the home with a SWAT team. Neighbors were told to stay inside.
The Royal Oak Mayor Jim Ellison says authorities weren't sure if the suspected shooter was still inside the home, so they treated it as a live shooter situation.
The suspect was not inside the home, however, police were able to identify, locate, and arrest the suspect around 1 p.m. Monday. The suspect was found in the 6100 block of Henry Ruff Road in Garden City.
Royal Oak police pulled evidence from the home throughout the day and, with the help of the DEA and FBI, they were able to track the man down.
This is the second murder this year in Royal Oak in just two weeks.
Police aren't yet saying what they believe to be the cause of the shooting, but they do say they believe there's no reason for neighbors to feel unsafe at this time.
