4-year-old injured in shooting to have surgery Tuesday

DETROIT (WJBK) - A 4-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after being caught in crossfire over the weekend. Lamia Ghaleb was shot in the shoulder.

The child is expected to undergo surgery Tuesday, her uncle Khaled Ghaleb said. Meanwhile, police are still on the search for those involved in the shooting that happened Friday just before 8:30 p.m.

In an interview with Fox 2 Sunday afternoon, family members described the terrifying scene as the bullets started flying.

Police say people in two different vehicles started shooting at each other in the 5800 block of Ogden, which is near Wyoming and McGraw avenues. The bullets flew past young children, including Lamia's two sisters, who are just 8 and 8 months old.

Family members say they saw at least three bullet holes, but police report they found only two bullets.

A 12-year-old cousin said he was standing next to Lamia when he saw the little girl get hit in the shoulder. He says she ran towards the kitchen crying after it happened, as adults told him to get down under a nearby bed. You can hear more from her family in the video player above.

Police have released surveillance video from the neighborhood that they say shows the two vehicles they're looking for. One is a silver Tahoe SUV, and the other is a black sedan which police say could be a Cadillac or a light-colored Ford Fusion.

Police believe this family got caught in the crossfire and was not the intended target of the shooting. A motive for the shooting isn't known at this time.
