Youmacon brings celebration of gaming, anime to Detroit

Youmacon kicked off Friday, invading downtown with heroes, villains and everything in between from gaming, anime and internet culture.

The event is Michigan's largest anime and gaming convention. It is celebrating its 10th year hosted jointly at the Renaissance Center and Cobo Hall through Nov. 1.

The name comes from the Japanese word for demon or ghost.

Cosplay, gaming tournaments, masquerades, dealers, karaoke, talent competitions along with a charity ball.

A vendor area inside Cobo Hall sells all things from rare and obscure Nintendo games to anime art and collectible figurines.

The Ren Cen hosts movie viewings, video game tournaments and tabletop gaming among other scheduled programming which runs around the clock.
