Road worker shocked on job site in Armada Twp., in critical condition

- Multiple road workers received a shocked Thursday morning at a job site in Armada Township, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. We're told one of the workers was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A six-man crew was working on a guard rail on Armada Center Road east of True Road when the shock happened. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office says employees were using a “boom” type device to suspend the guard rails near a power line when the shock occurred.

The device moved close enough to the power line for the electricity to jump from the power line to the device. This caused the work vehicle to be electrically charged, explains the sheriff's department.

The Department of Roads employee was touching a trailer that was hitched to the truck and he was injured by the electrical charge. While the man was attached to the trailer, another employee tackled him, removing him from the trailer. He and another worker gave the man CPR until an emergency crew arrived.

The sheriff's office says the other workers were checked out on-scene and are okay. The worker who received the shock was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He is a 38-year-old man from Mount Clemens.

The road is closed in the area as the investigation continues.
