DETROIT (WJBK) - The person police believe may be involved in the murder of a 91-year-old in Detroit has turned himself in, Detroit Police confirms to FOX 2.
Paul Monchnik was found dead in his house after a fire early Monday morning. His house is in the 20500 block of Bentler Street on the city's northwest side, near Lahser and Eight Mile roads. Authorities determined Monchnik was not killed in the fire, though, and that it appears he was fatally shot and the fire was set as a cover up.
Authorities were questioning Monchnik's neighbors early Tuesday morning. It is unclear at this time if the suspect is connected with that investigation.
Further details about the suspect have not been given at this time.
Police had released a surveillance photo of a suspect they say was seen getting gas at a nearby station with Monchnik's missing van. Moncknik's van has still not been found.
Police are now calling Stewart's 17-year-old grandson a suspect.
Stewart says his grandson has been staying with him the past several days from Romulus. He says he's never been in serious trouble and prays he has nothing to do with this horrific crime.
This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 2 for updates.
