Macomb Township woman charged in husband's shooting death

- Macomb County Sheriffs have charged 61 year-old Julie Kay Chimelak in the shooting death of her husband, 75 year-old Ronald George Chimelak.

Julie Chimelak has been charged with second degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm. All three are felonies, the first possibly carrying a life sentence.

According to police, at about 4:35 p.m. Nov. 25, the Macomb County Sheriff Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call by a female resident of a home located in the 20200 block of Nicol Creek Drive, in Macomb Township.

The caller stated she had accidentally shot her husband. Sheriff cars rushed to the scene and upon arriving, deputies found Ronald George Chimelak lying on his back on the floor in a room of the condominium.

He had been shot once in the chest.

Julie Kay Chimelak was kneeling next to him and was attempting to perform CPR. Deputies intervened and attempted life-saving measures.

Ronald Chimelak was then taken by ambulance to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5:20 p.m.

Deputies and detectives recovered a Smith & Wesson, 6-shot, .357 caliber revolver from a bedroom of the home.

Julie Kay Chimelak will be arraigned on those charges Monday, November 30 inside the 41A District Court of Shelby Township.
