The next big thing in fitness could come from the D.
This is the Core Crank, a modern spin on the jump rope by creators Erik Thompson and Danard Bailey say provides one heck of a workout.
Bailey was the motivation for the Core Crank. He started training with Thompson in 2011 when he weighed 460 pounds and found that doing a traditional workout to be nearly impossible.
"I would try to get in the machines and it just wasn't working," said Bailey. "I couldn't fit in the machines I couldn't fit on the treadmill
And that gave Thompson an idea.
"I have a habit of twirling my keys and because I'm twirling my keys I was like my forearm is killing me," he said.
Fast forward to some brain storming sessions, a few thousand of dollars and several prototypes - and they came up with Core Crank.
Bailey started using it and then started shrinking.
FOX 2: "You lost 240 pounds doing that?"
It is called the Core Crank for good reason. You can't really get this thing to spin unless you tighten up your abs, your chest and even your butt.
FOX 2 met the Motor City inventors at Snap Fitness in Roseville.
A couple of guys working out gave the 'Crank a few turns and were impressed.
"It's a bit of a workout," said John Patton. "I train pretty much every day and that gets the cardio going."
"It works and you can feel the pump," Patton said. "I'm on fire right now."
Erik and Danard's big idea might be catching fire. They were recently featured on the Discovery Channel's All-American Makers. They partnered with a fitness company from la and are even pitching their product to the Detroit Lions' strength and conditioning coach.
"We're also reaching out to the tiger's trainers because when it comes to quarterbacking throwing a baseball playing golf there's truly no product you can use that's going to help you create fluidity instead of building muscle
You can preorder the Core Crank on Indiegogo for $40.
Part of the proceeds will go towards leukemia research.
Thompson, an Army veteran, was diagnosed with the blood cancer in 2012.
