DETROIT (WJBK) - The search is on for the gunman who shot and killed a 16-year-old in Detroit.
It happened outside the Clinton House Apartments on Kenilworth Street, which is near Woodward Avenue and Chicago Boulevard.
We're told someone opened fire the teen as he left the building. He was there at his grandmother's apartment visiting family. They believe the gunman was waiting there to "ambush" him.
"The way they killed him tonight out here - that's overkill," says the victim's cousin, Latrescha Boswell-Fox. "I mean, black lives out here do matter and people don't understand that. The kids that's our race are just killing each other; they don't care about what's going on, who they're hurting, what family they're hurting. They're just concerned about who they are, what kind of conscience they carry."
Relatives describe him as an energetic teen who was living life to the fullest.
Relatives say the shooting was captured on the apartment buildings surveillance cameras.
