DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - A person was shot and killed inside the lobby of Dearborn Heights City Hall after lunging at a security guard.
Mayor Paletko tells FOX 2 a man entered the lobby and refused to take his belongings out of his pockets before going through the metal detectors. Paletko says the man got upset, pulled out a knife and lunged toward the security guard. Paletko says the security guard drew his weapon and shot the man.
The building, located on Michigan Avenue near Beech Daly Road, is in lockdown mode right now. Two schools in the area are also on lockdown as a precaution. Those schools are Crestwood High School and Daly Elementary School.
The City Hall building houses the police department as well as the 20th District Court, which will remain closed for the day.
FOX 2's Roop Raj is at the scene and tweeted this video from outside the police department.
