Officially the Winter Weather Advisory for Wayne, Washenaw, Lenawee and Monroe, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Lapeer and St. Clair counties.
The heaviest mix of snow and sleet is exected to start at 4 p.m. A glaze of ice is expected to coat Wayne and Monroe Counties, while Lenawee and Washtenaw counties may get closer to .10" of ice.
Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Lapeer and St. Clair counties should be closer to .10" to .20" of ice, with the highest amounts north of m-59.
The wind will be whipping as well, so power outages are possible where power lines become coated with ice.
The icy conditions sent salt trucks into overdrive as road crews hit the streets in counties across metro Detroit.
"We're out doing salting," said Craig Bryson, road commission for Oakland County. "Prior to that we were doing anti-icing which is putting down liquid brine and we're doing it all over the county on freeway ramps, overpasses, the types that ice up first."
In Macomb County, the plan was the same, as officials say crews have been out in full force salting roads and bridges.
"Our guys were out this morning anti icing roadways and ramps," said Leo Ciavatta from the Macomb County Department of Roads. "When it started freezing rain our salt trucks were dispatched."
In Wayne County officials say 100 salt trucks were out addressing the road conditions. Officials want residents to visit compass.waynecounty.com for updates on truck locations and current road conditions.
