DETROIT - A puppy is recovering after being abandoned, found shivering in a garbage bag outside the Packard Plant.
This pup's tail tells you he'd be happy anywhere - just as long as it's away from where he was found.
A work crew outside Detroit's Packard Plant found a pit-lab mix cowering inside a trash bag on their break.
"The area was very isolated, there are alot of abandoned homes, it is very industrial," said Kristina Rinaldi of Detroit Dog Rescue. "There was a lot of beer cans, a lot bottles, it looked like someone had a party out there. Just some snacks. Maybe he crawled in there or maybe he was tossed out with the bag."
No one is quite sure how or why he got there.
"Not somewhere where a puppy could've got out of the gate, not somewhere where a dog runs off," Rinaldi said. "This puppy was intentionally left there."
Unfortunately this is something the Detroit Dog Rescue sees a lot of around this time. Maybe an unwanted gift and people thing they can just return an animal to the wild.
These are tough weather conditions for anyone to endure let alone a 14-week-old puppy. Remarkably "Packard" was found at the right time and is doing well aside from some minor medical issues.
"He has intestinal parasites and a skin condition," Rinaldi said. "Probably out there for a little while."
Packard is being cared for at the Greenfield Pet Hospital in Southfield. He will be on stray hold for a week then be up for adoption.
"If anyone wants to donate to Packard's care they go to DetroitDogRescue.com," Rinaldi said. "We are a non-profit. the deduction is tax deductible."
The Detroit Dog Rescue will also have updates on Packard and other animals online as well.
