Detroit Police are searching for four suspects, after a 17-year old  was gunned down on the city's southwest side.

On New Year's Eve, instead of celebrating new beginnings, a Detroit family is mourning a tragic ending. 17-year-old Antonio Hobson was shot several times around 1:30 Thursday morning. According to witnesses, four people pulled up in two different vehicles and started shooting at Michigan Avenue and Burton.

A family member tried to drive the teen to the hospital, when he was stopped by police for speeding near Wyoming and Tireman. Police called an ambulance but it was too late.

Antonio's sister, Tiffany Raines, told WWJ 950 her 17-year-old brother, who was a father to a one-year-old, didn't deserve this.

"He got a baby at home. He's a good guy a stand up man. He loved his kids, still going to school. He got a lot of stuff to look forward to," she said.

Investigators spent much of their time focused on a red SUV parked at the intersection where more than a dozen shell casings lay nearby. Witnesses said two vehicles pulled up to the SUV, four people climbed out and started shooting. Then they sped away.

Sources say Hobson may have been breaking into cars in the area and its one of the many scenarios police are now looking into. Tiffany said she didn't know if that part was true.

"All I know he was shot. My other brother got a phone call to get him and when he came and got him he was already shot," she said. "Evidently we are losing our kids to these streets out here in Detroit and for what reason? For what reason? Why is my brother dead right now?"

Police are searching for the suspects and two SUVs, including a burgundy SS Trailblazer and a black Chevy Tahoe but have little information beyond that. Anyone who knows anything is asked to call Detroit Police.
