Detroit murders down for '15 despite violent end

The preliminary numbers are in for 2015 and, according to the city, the total murders are down from the previous year and are the lowest in decades.

So many senseless crimes capping off the month of december -- yet detroit's murder rate appears to be down for 2015.

Preliminary numbers show there were 295 murders in the city for the calendar year. That's five less than in 2014.

The numbers are down despite the deadly month of December. 38 people were killed in Detroit between December 1 and 31. 18 of those deaths came in the second half of the month.

The shooting death a 58 year old off duty firefighter, a bass player and a 7 year old among the latest cases making headlines.

Despite the violence, the city says 2014 was the lowest numbers of murders since 1967,
