DETROIT - An angry passenger steered a Detroit Department of Transportation bus into a utility pole.
D-DOT passengers have been getting a lot more than they bargained for lately. Friday's bus crash is at least the third in recent months and one that passengers won't soon forget.
Bus passengers chased down and restrain the woman moments after she reportedly caused it to crash on Gratiot near Conner on Detroit's east side.
A cell phone camera was rolling moments after it happened. The driver offered her account of the moments leading up to the crash with Detroit police.
D-DOT officials say the woman was causing a disturbance with other passengers and threatened to kill everyone on the bus.
The driver asked her to get off the bus and that's when the woman allegedly grabbed the wheel.
"This is how it ended up here," said a witness. "They hit a pole, hit a telephone booth. Then the passenger got off the bus and the other passengers beat her up and held her for the cops."
The bus struck a light pole and mail box before coming to a rest at Gratiot and Wilfred.
Two passengers were taken to St. John's Hospital. The passenger will likely have a date with a judge.
Police took that woman into custody. The two people who went to the hospital were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
