Suspect in attempted murder arrested after chase

- A man wanted for trying to run someone over with a stolen vehicle led police on a wild chase in Pontiac.

Broderic Provost was wanted for questioning on an attempted murder and robbery case raced down the Clinton River Trail, a path not meant for cars.

After hitting a barricade he jumped out and ran, ending up at a small apartment complex where he tried to get into Xavier Lopez's apartment.

"I thought he was hurt," Lopez said. "I was going to help him out."

Lopez and his pregnant girlfriend were enjoying and evening together Wednesday in their apartment at Salmer and Orchard Lake Road, when they heard a knock on the door.

"He tried to push his way completely through," Lopez said. "He was like please man help me out I’m going to go to prison. I was like no man I can't help you out and that's when I locked the door, saw him run across.

After the man tried to force his way inside Lopez’s apartment, he moved onto the lady next-door.

"She wasn't going to let him in either," Lopez said.

A dash cam video shows the end of the chase. The suspect fled from Oakland County Sheriff Department Deputies during a traffic stop, leading them to the apartments.

Fortunately, no pedestrians were using the trail.

Provost, 31, is facing charges for assault to commit murder, armed robbery, unlawful driving away of an automobile and breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.

He allegedly hit a 58-year-old man twice with the stolen Ford Ranger and later followed him and assaulted him, stealing his wallet.

He is being held on a $1 million bond.
