81-year-old man shot twice, carjacked at Detroit liquor store

Detroit police are investigating after an elderly man was carjacked and shot early Tuesday morning on the city's west side.
Police say 81-year-old Herman Garth was on his way back from the casino with his winning when he decided to stop and get some snacks.
He stopped at Big Daddy's Liquor Store on Joy Road near Southfield Road when he was approached by two men in the parking lot.
One of the men had a gun, police say. They demanded Garth's money -- more than $700 -- and when he fought back, they shot him, took the money and drove off in his car.
Since it was dark, Garth didn't get a good look at the suspects so police are still working on getting a description. The men took off in Garth's 2013 gray Chevy Cruz.
Garth was in the hospital in temporary serious condition but he's home now.
If you heard or saw anything suspicious in the area of the liquor store, which is near Southfield Road, you're asked to contact the Detroit Police Department.
