Woman who fought off rape suspect with Taser testifies

A 39-year-old woman who survived the rape attempt, said 18-year-old Darian Winfield broke into her home, lodged a knife in her chest and went after her on Dec. 30.

An 18-year-old is accused of being a serial rapist and today one of his alleged victims testified.

The Detroit teen is linked to at least three brutal attacks on women and on Tuesday another woman believed to be targeted by him took the stand.

A 39-year-old woman who survived the rape attempt, said 18-year-old Darian Winfield broke into her home, lodged a knife in her chest and went after her on Dec. 30.

The attack happened while she was still in bed in her house on Radnor on the city's west side.

"He jumps on my bed and starts attacking me," she said.  "He grabs the lamp and hits me on the top of my head," she said.

The witness needed staples for her head, and stitches for other wounds. She was stabbed in the chest four times during the attack and didn't even realize it at first.

"He was hitting me, stabbing me, I didn't know he was stabbing me," she said. "I said 'What do you want' and he said 'I want that.'"

She alleges Winfield pointed to her groin, but wasn't able to rape her, before she pulled out her own weapon, a Taser.

"We get in my hallway and I reach in my bathroom and grab my Taser," she said.

Attorney: "What happens when you grab your Taser?"

"I lit him up," she said. "He punched me in the head after he tazed me and took off running."

Before leaving court, Winfield was identified by the woman as her attacker.

Winfield is bound over on home invasion, assault with intent to murder charges and assault to commit criminal sexual conduct.

Police also suspect Winfield of breaking into at least two other homes and assaulting at least three other women.
