Police officer injured in fatal shooting of suspect near Fairlane mall

A Dearborn police officer shot a suspect after a traffic stop near Fairlane mall.

UPDATE (6:30 p.m.): The female suspect shot by a Dearborn police officer has died, according to Michigan State Police.

The suspect was attempting to run down a Dearborn police officer after a traffic stop, according to MSP.

The incident happened near Fairlane Mall in Dearborn at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. One officer suffered minor injuries. 

The woman was said to be acting erratic inside Fairlane mall and had an altercation in the parking lot with a mall security officer. 

Dearborn police and mall security chased the woman to Hubbard Drive and the Southfield freeway, where they were able to get her to stop her vehicle.

A witness told FOX 2 the driver refused to get out of the vehicle when surrounded by police. 

"I don't know if the vehicle moved forward, but at that point the officer shot at the vehicle," he said.

The witness said the car then moved forward toward the officer before coming to stop.

A Chevrolet HHR could be seen with three bullet holes in the windshield and a front side door window shot out. 

Hubbard Drive is closed to traffic at this time.
