Dearborn PD release statement after second officer-involved shooting

- The Dearborn Police Department has put out a press release in response to the second officer-involved shooting in as many months, both of which are being investigated by the Michigan State Police.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad released the press release on Thursday, almost 24 hours after a Dearborn officer and shot and killed a woman near Fairlane Mall.

On Wednesday, a Dearborn officer shot and killed a 31-year-old Detroit woman who police say was driving erratically down Hubbard. According to witnesses, the woman tried to run over several Dearborn officers as they were trying to pull her over.

On December 23, Kevin Matthews was shot and killed by a Dearborn cop after police say he tried to grab the officer's gun during a struggle.

Haddad writes that the department is "deeply saddened by the two officer involved fatal shooting incidents that have occurred over the past month." He also said that the department is proud of its long history of Civil Rights advocacy and history of appropriate use of force.

MSP is conducting both investigations and Haddad maintains that Dearborn Police are committed to transparency and disclosure and will cooperate fully with both investigations.
