Justice or else was the rallying cry from protesters toward Gov. Rick Snyder. They are not only calling on Snyder to be out of a job, they also want him in handcuffs, saying he's to blame for the Flint water crisis, problems in Detroit Public Schools and more.
Snyder was one of the top 10 newsmakers of 2015 according to Crane's Detroit. But not according to protesters.
"The governor has murdered people, the governor has poisoned people and he's still running the streets," said Rev. W.J. Rideout of the Defender of Truth and Justice.
The protest gathered momentum just one day after the State Board of Canvassers approved the language that could get the governor recalled.
"We're calling on all community organizations, churches," said Minister Malik Shabazz, Marcus Garvey Movement.
Specifically, the protesters, part of the Marcus Garvey movement, don't like Snyder's Detroit Public Schools reform, issues dealing with Flint and his support of the Emergency Manager Law.
"No democracy, poisoning children, where does it end," Shabazz said.
But inside the Crain's Newsmaker luncheon at the Motor City Casino, the governor has supporters.
"If you look at his overall record, he's been great for the state of Michigan," said Joe Vicari, CEO of Andiamo's Restaurant Group. "I know that there is issues in Flint. I know that he wasn't the cause of it. Maybe the reaction was slow, all in all, you have to look at his record from the beginning to the end. And I think it will be much more positive than negative."
"You lock up Mayor Kwame (Kilpatrick) for stealing funds," Rideout said.. "But you don't lock up the governor for murdering people."
"He's done nothing wrong to go to jail, that's for sure," Vicari said.
Snyder didn't win Crain's Newsmaker of the Year award. That went to Mike and Cristopher Ilitch, but the protesters still want Snyder out.
FOX 2: "If you recall the governor, the lieutenant governor will take over, isn't that just as bad?"
"But at least he'll be on check," Shabazz said, adding that if need be, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley could also be recalled.
